(Nashville, TN/January 3, 2008) Ashby Q. Burks, of the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, has been named an Outstanding Healthcare Transaction Lawyer by Nightingale's Healthcare News, a newsletter for health care executives and professionals serving the health care industry. Mr. Burks is among 12 attorneys from across the country who were named to the list, which is published annually by Nightingale's. All 12 attorneys will be honored at an awards dinner reception held as part of the Ninth Annual Healthcare Transactions Conference in April 2008.
Mr. Burks was recognized for his recent work on health care transactions which included representing the selling stockholders in the sale of an industry-leading provider of software communication applications to the healthcare industry and other commercial markets; representing a multi-member not-for-profit corporation selling its sole acute care hospital; representing a for-profit system in forming two joint ventures with a not-for-profit hospital to operate two inpatient rehabilitation hospitals; and representing a bank in providing secured term and working capital loans to a company operating residential treatment facilities for adolescents and children.
