A business valuation can be a very helpful (and sometimes necessary) tool. But it's a large and complicated undertaking, and knowing how valuations work and how one would affect the way a business runs are critical prerequisites. In this Atlanta Business Chronicle article, Justin Daniels notes that the most difficult kind of valuation involves small businesses and startups with few tangible assets.
"When you value a business for investing on an earlier-stage company, I could get out a dartboard … it's very difficult and very inexact," said Mr. Daniels.
