(New Orleans, LA/September 27, 2010) Kenneth M. Klemm, shareholder in the New Orleans office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, will be a featured speaker at the 9th Annual Energy Litigation Conference on October 12 in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Klemm's presentation, "Oil, Gas and Mineral Leasing: When is a Lease a Lease?" will focus on the formation of oil, gas and mineral leases in Louisiana and Texas. According to Mr. Klemm, "This is a timely topic because, during the past several years, the 'boom' and then the 'bust' in leasing activities for properties within the Haynesville Shale and other areas resulted in a significant amount of litigation. A number of cases instituted by mineral interest owners sought enforcement of agreed-upon bonus payments and other lease terms even though offers were rescinded during title examination periods or prior to the mineral interest owners executing valid leases. This has become an area of significant concern for operators."
A graduate of the Fordham University School of Law, Mr. Klemm is an experienced litigator who primarily defends clients in marine, energy, oil and gas litigation. His clients range from local businesses and individuals and oil and pollution clean-up companies, to the world's largest independent natural gas producer, one of the world's largest oil field services companies, regional and national transporters of natural gas, and national insurance companies. Mr. Klemm is a frequent speaker on litigation-related topics involving admiralty and maritime issues, environmental law and oil and gas casualties. He is co-chair of the Programs Subcommittee of the American Bar Association's Energy Litigation Committee and is a proctor member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States.
