(Memphis, TN / August 1, 2013) Baker Donelson is pleased to announce that Nakimuli O. Davis and Robert F. Tom have been named to the Lawyers of Color's inaugural Hot List.
The Hot List special issue, published in July 2013, includes 100 early- to mid-career minority attorneys under 40 from the southern U.S. Honorees were selected through a two-part process involving a selection committee reviewing nominations from mentors, peers and colleagues. Editorial picks were also made based on research of bar publications and legal blogs to identify attorneys who had noteworthy accomplishments or activity in legal pipeline initiatives.
Ms. Davis is an associate in Baker Donelson's Jackson, Mississippi office, where she focuses her practice on general business and employment litigation in both federal and state courts. She is licensed in Mississippi and Tennessee and has experience working on a wide range of litigation matters. A 2009 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law, Ms. Davis serves as co-chair of the Community Service Committee for the Jackson Young Lawyers Association. She is a member of DRI and the Capital Area, Magnolia, Metro-Jackson Black Women Lawyer's and American Bar Associations, and was selected as the 2013 recipient of the Jackson Young Lawyers' Outstanding Service Award.
Mr. Tom was recently named a shareholder in Baker Donelson's Memphis office, where he represents clients in all aspects of litigation involving commercial, real estate and mortgage disputes. He focuses his commercial litigation practice on banking, financial services and class action litigation and also has significant experience with creditors' rights litigation. A 2004 cum laude graduate of Tulane University Law School, Mr. Tom was listed as a "Rising Star" in Mid-South Super Lawyers in the area of Business Litigation in 2012 and is serving as a 2013 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow. He is a member of the Memphis, Tennessee, American and National Asian Pacific American Bar Associations, and serves as the secretary of the Tennessee Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
Lawyers of Color, which was founded as On Being A Black Lawyer, has been recognized by the American Bar Association, National Black Law Students Association, and National Association of Black Journalists.
