Professional Biography


Mr. Strain has represented clients in cases involving breaches of contract, business torts, products liability, premises liability, personal injury, professional liability, residential mortgage disputes, motor vehicle accidents, estate and trust disputes, and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. He has experience in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels.

In addition to his litigation experience, Mr. Strain has counseled clients on various matters, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, compliance with city ordinances, website terms of use and privacy policies, and general business matters.

Before graduating from Vanderbilt University Law School, Mr. Strain served as an extern for the Office of the District Attorney General for Shelby County, Tennessee.

  • Successfully represented a large retailer and other commercial clients in premises liability actions.

  • Post-Matter of A-B-, successfully represented a mother and her three children who had fled domestic violence in their home country in obtaining asylum.

  • Successfully resolved, at mediation and prior to extensive litigation, a dispute between investors in a film.

  • Obtained dismissal of a legal malpractice action on the basis of Tennessee's three-dismissal rule.

  • Obtained dismissal of action asserting assorted tort claims against legal professionals.

  • Successfully moved to strike class allegations in a Telephone Consumer Protection Act case on the bases of adequacy, typicality, and predominance.

  • Part of a team that, on appeal of a case initially tried by other firms, successfully secured a ruling to vacate an approximate $17 million jury verdict and remand the case for a new trial.

  • Successfully recovered more than $95,000 from a contractor who wrongfully abandoned a residential renovation and construction project.
