More than 70,000 salaried workers in Louisiana may be affected by a set of proposed regulations by the U.S. Department of Labor that would reclassify their employment status with their employer. In this New Orleans CityBusiness article, Steve Griffith discusses the impact of the proposed changes and notes that businesses have a lot of options in how they could deal with these changes.
"All of the options really begin with self-evaluation on how they are paying their employees," Mr. Griffith said. "There are some employees that will need to be converted to hourly bases instead of salary bases, assuming you're paying them less $50,000 a year, in which many businesses are and that is going to require keep tracking of hours."
