(Jackson, MS / March 10, 2016) Baker Donelson is pleased to announce that Wendy Huff Ellard has been recognized with the American Bar Association's (ABA)'s Young Lawyers Division (YLD) "Star of the Quarter" award at the division's mid-year meeting held in San Diego, California.
The award is presented each quarter to a committee member demonstrating leadership on a recent project or service achievement toward the work of the YLD. Ms. Ellard received the award for her leadership in the implementation of the ABA YLD Disaster Legal Services (DLS) program in multiple states and also working to train other ABA District Representatives to assist victims in the event of a disaster. Ms. Ellard has served as Vice-Director to the Division's team for four years and also serves on the ABA's Standing Committee for Disaster Response and Preparedness.
An associate in Baker Donelson's Jackson office, Ms. Ellard focuses her practice in the areas of state public policy and disaster recovery and has extensive experience with legal and regulatory compliance issues under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Recovery and Emergency Assistance Act. Following Hurricane Katrina, Ms. Ellard assisted public and private non-profit entities in navigation of the complex federal and state regulatory frameworks. She is a member of the Mississippi Bar and Capital Area Bar Associations, as well as the Mississippi Women Lawyers Association where she currently serves as President-Elect. Ms. Ellard is also a member of the National Emergency Management Association.
