Aldo M. Leiva, a shareholder in the national law firm of Baker Donelson, has been appointed to serve as vice chair of the Privacy, Cybersecurity, & Digital Rights Committee of the American Bar Association's (ABA) International Law Section.
This committee serves as a resource to assist in the education of international law practitioners on the evolving international laws and practices relating to privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, and e-commerce, particularly as they relate to global e-business. The committee also explores the complex legal issues that arise when technology innovation, new forms of content, international business considerations, and regulatory concerns converge.
An attorney in Baker Donelson's Fort Lauderdale office, Mr. Leiva is a member of the Firm's Government Enforcement and Investigations Group and its Data Protection, Privacy and Cybersecurity Team. His practice is focused on assisting clients with investigations, compliance, and regulatory matters relating to critical infrastructure, cybersecurity, and supply chain security. His clients also look to him for guidance on complex litigation matters involving consumer privacy class actions, business disputes, insurance-related litigation, professional liability, real estate, and construction disputes. He provides counsel for his clients when they are facing cybersecurity incidents, data privacy issues, and compliance or litigation involving cybersecurity and privacy laws and regulations on both the state and federal levels. Mr. Leiva advises clients on business practices to ensure compliance with laws regarding digital operations, digital media, social media, website marketing, mobile apps, and cloud computing.
Mr. Leiva holds degrees from the State University of New York and University of Massachusetts at Boston, and he is a graduate of the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. He is a member of the Florida Bar Association, the Cuban American Bar Association, the International Association of Privacy Professionals, and the U.S. Secret Service – Miami Economic Crimes Task Force. He is a recipient of the Baker Donelson Fort Lauderdale Office Pro Bono Award (2022) and has served as a member of Baker Donelson's Diversity Committee since 2018. Mr. Leiva is listed in Best Lawyers in America® in Privacy and Data Security Law and was recognized as the Cuban American Bar Association Human Rights Member of the Year in 2020.
