Bruce Anthony McMullen, a shareholder with over 25 years of complex litigation experience defending large corporations and businesses, has been named managing shareholder for Baker Donelson's Memphis offices.
Mr. McMullen, a shareholder since 2008, served a four-year term as the Chief Legal Officer for the City of Memphis from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2019, while simultaneously maintaining his practice at Baker Donelson. As the City's Chief Legal Officer, Mr. McMullen made a significant impact through increasing the City's legal spend with Minority & Women Business Enterprises (MWBEs) and providing a client base that has propelled several minorities to partnership in majority firms.
Among his most notable achievements during his service to the City of Memphis, Mr. McMullen oversaw the legal and logistical strategy for removal of Confederate monuments from Memphis parks in 2017. In 2020, he was honored with the MLK Luminary Award, which recognizes attorneys who champion civil rights in Memphis, and with the Memphis Bar Association's Judge Jerome Turner Lawyer's Lawyer Award.
Mr. McMullen has served as lead counsel in numerous high-profile and high-exposure trial and appellate proceedings in federal and state courts across the country. As managing shareholder of the Memphis offices, he will continue his practice, focusing on commercial litigation, class action defense, health care litigation, tort liability, and municipal law.
