President Trump's 90-day ban on immigrants from seven specific countries has short- and long-term consequences for higher education institutions and companies in the health care and tech industries, and could have ripple effects that reach far beyond the 90 days. While a court order currently blocks the ban, that order may be overturned and some aspects of the executive order are not blocked. Robert Divine, leader of Baker Donelson's Global Immigration Group and a shareholder in the Washington, D.C. and Chattanooga offices, will discuss up-to-the-minute changes in immigration policy and will offer specific, actionable steps on how institutions and companies should move forward in the face of uncertainty. Topics will include H1-B, student, exchange visitor and other categories.
Mr. Divine served as Chief Counsel and Acting Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) from July 2004 to November 2006 and is author of Immigration Practice, a national practical treatise in its 15th edition.
