Professional Biography

Ms. McKinney is an associate in Baker Donelson's Memphis office and a member of the Advocacy Department. She has experience in drafting pretrial motions and supporting briefs in various types of matters, such as intellectual property disputes, complex litigation, municipal defense, contractual disputes, and commercial litigation.

Prior to joining Baker Donelson, Ms. McKinney served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Samuel H. Mays of the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.

During law school, she received awards for excellence in evidence, the University of Tennessee Legal Clinic, civil pretrial litigation, and legal process. While working as a student attorney in the UT Legal Clinic, Ms. McKinney represented a small business in filing a successful trademark application.

Overcame multiple USPTO Trademark Office actions refusing a trademark application based on the likelihood of confusion, resulting in the publication of the applied-for trademarks on the Principal Register.
Drafted a successful cease and desist letter to a company that was infringing a client's trademark with a similar mark on different but overlapping services, resulting in the company agreeing to re-brand and avoiding lengthy and costly litigation for the client.
Served as lead associate in drafting numerous pretrial motions, including a motion for summary judgment, in a multi-million-dollar copyright, trademark, and trade dress infringement dispute involving both domestic and international intellectual property laws.
Drafted a successful brief in opposition to an untimely motion to amend a complaint in a breach of contract action.
Drafted numerous motions to dismiss and supporting briefs in a multi-million-dollar, multi-district litigation class action matter.
Drafted a successful motion to dismiss and supporting brief, resulting in the dismissal of breach of contract and Unlawful Insurance Act claims against a major third-party administrator involved in the adjustment of insurance claims.
