The leadership of the Alabama House of Representatives released its proposed gaming legislation on February 8, 2024. We believe that this is Alabama's most serious and best drafted effort to date at legalizing gaming. Given that the legislation has the support of Governor Kay Ivey and the leadership of both legislative chambers, there is a very good chance that the bill will pass. The bill proposes seven casinos with locations in Birmingham, Mobile, Green County, Macon County, Lowndes County, Houston County, and a seventh location in northeast Alabama. The bill also provides for a lottery and sports betting. Finally, the bill would direct the Governor to negotiate a compact with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
