The D.C. Universal Paid Leave Amendment Act has an incredibly broad reach. All employers that directly or indirectly employ or exercise control over the terms and conditions of employees working in D.C. are required to pay unemployment insurance on behalf of those employees, regardless of whether the employer has a physical location in D.C.
D.C. will begin collecting taxes on July 1, 2019, with benefits taking effect July 1, 2020. During this session, you will learn about the Act's provisions, its interaction with other leave laws, and recommendations for employers that must comply with the Act.
