Abby Parker Nix

Abby Parker Nix is an associate in Baker Donelson's Nashville office and a member of the Labor and Employment Group. She counsels and defends employers across a wide range of employment matters, from day-to-day workplace issues to complex litigation.

Abby represents employers in all aspects of employment law. She has defended clients against discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims, including those based on age, disability, race, sex/pay, pregnancy, FMLA, and LGBTQ status, in federal and state courts, administrative agencies, and EEOC proceedings. Her experience covers every phase of employment litigation, from EEOC charges and conciliation through demand-stage counseling, arbitration, summary judgment, mediation, and trial. She has served in significant roles including second-chairing a federal jury trial on an ADA/TDA disability discrimination case and supporting the defense of an EEOC enforcement action involving race discrimination, hostile work environment, and retaliation claims on behalf of multiple workers. Her clients have included employers in health care, insurance, construction, staffing, nonprofit, and professional services. Abby also counsels clients on employment policies and handbooks, workplace investigations, employee discipline and terminations, and compliance with federal and state employment laws.

In addition to her employment practice, Abby handles complex business litigation matters across various industries, including health care, hospitality, and financial services. She has experience at every stage of litigation, from pre-suit investigations through trial and mediation. Abby has successfully dismissed claims and lawsuits, defended clients in depositions, negotiated favorable settlement agreements, and tried cases to verdict. She prioritizes her clients' needs and works to build lasting, trusted relationships.

Abby is committed to pro bono service and community involvement. She serves multiple pro bono clients and volunteers at and coordinates the HELP clinic, a monthly free legal clinic, at Room in the Inn. She also completed Rule 31 Family Mediation training and volunteered with the Community Mediation Center during law school.

Prior to joining Baker Donelson as an associate, Abby studied journalism at Auburn University and interned with a local magazine and newspaper, where she honed her skills in writing, interviewing, and investigation − skills she applies daily in her litigation practice.

She is proficient in Spanish.

  • Successfully defended employers in multiple EEOC investigations involving claims of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, resulting in favorable outcomes including dismissals and no-cause determinations. 

  • Counseled employers on complex workplace investigations and termination decisions, helping clients mitigate litigation risk while achieving their business objectives.

  • Drafted and revised employee handbooks and workplace policies for employers across various industries to ensure compliance with evolving federal and state employment laws.

  • Third chaired and won an administrative trial on behalf of a hospital challenging the Tennessee Health Facilities Commission's (HFC) grant of a Certificate of Need (CON) for a new community hospital.

  • Second chaired a federal jury trial in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee on a contract formation issue.

  • Defended and obtained a full defense award for a global bank in AAA Consumer Arbitration against claims exceeding $1 million for alleged fraudulent misrepresentation, violations of the Fair Credit Billing Act, and breach of contract.

  • Won a breach of contract trial on behalf of a national regional bank for more than $70,000 including attorneys' fees.

  • Defended and received a defense verdict on a breach of contract claim in a landlord/tenant dispute on behalf of a commercial landlord and executive property manager.
