Derek W. Mullins, an associate in the Firm's Chattanooga and Atlanta offices, focuses his litigation practice on business, insurance, labor and employment, product liability, transportation, and professional liability. He has experience managing a complex caseload and has successfully obtained dismissals and summary judgements in numerous disputes.

He is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Georgia and Tennessee and before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Tax Court, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

While at the University of Tennessee College of Law, Mr. Mullins served in the law school's appellate advocacy clinic and earned recognition from the Supreme Court of Tennessee for more than 100 hours of pro bono service. Mr. Mullins also received a nomination to the Order of Barristers, a national honors organization recognizing exceptional skill and achievement in trial advocacy, oral advocacy and brief writing.

  • Obtained multiple favorable rulings on motions to dismiss and summary judgment for clients in various industries.

  • Leveraged numerous voluntary dismissals on behalf of clients in the construction, transportation, insurance, and hospitality industries.

  • Represented numerous employers in investigations conducted by the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission and Tennessee Human Rights Commission.

  • Advised numerous clients in the insurance industry by providing detailed coverage opinions examining coverage obligations arising out of insuring agreements.

  • Represented insurance carriers pursuing declaratory judgments to adjudicate coverage obligations under insuring agreements.

  • Represented individuals and entities in due process hearings conducted by state taxing agencies and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

  • Represented individuals and entities seeking penalty and interest abatements, and installment and lump-sum settlement payment agreements with state taxing agencies and the IRS.
