Experienced Litigation Paralegal - Any Office Location

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell, & Berkowitz, P.C. has an immediate opening for an experienced Litigation Paralegal. This position may be based at any office location within the Firm's footprint. The position offers flexibility, including the opportunity to work remotely, with occasional travel to one of our offices required for training, trial preparation, and other in-person events.

Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor's degree and/or a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program, along with a minimum of five years of litigation experience. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to work independently and will demonstrate strong experience in managing, organizing, and reviewing complex litigation documents, including proficiency in Relativity or similar document review platforms. Familiarity with collaboration and productivity tools such as Microsoft Teams and Asana is strongly preferred.

The Litigation Paralegal will provide comprehensive support to trial counsel across all stages of litigation, from initial investigation through trial and resolution. Responsibilities include drafting correspondence, pleadings, discovery materials, and other litigation-related documents; conducting thorough factual investigations; assisting attorneys in preparation for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials; and providing direct support during trial proceedings.

Candidates should be proficient with electronic and paper filing procedures in both state and federal courts, possess a thorough working knowledge of relevant court rules, and be adept at navigating court websites and conducting effective legal research.

Strong organizational abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, and effective oral and written communication are critical to success in this role. The ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and priorities for different attorneys simultaneously is essential. Additionally, candidates must be willing to work overtime and travel for trials as required. Prior experience accurately recording billable hours is necessary.

The salary range for New Jersey, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. applicants is $85,000 - $97,500.

Legal Project Manager - Any Office Location

Position

The Legal Project Manager (LPM) partners closely with the Legal Process Engineering team and the firm’s attorneys to drive cutting-edge client portfolio implementations and ongoing management that power the Firm’s growth.  This position will report to a Director – Legal Process Engineer on the CSG team. Leveraging exceptional project management acumen, the LPM orchestrates a variety of high-impact initiatives, including legal operations optimization, knowledge management advancements, innovation pilots, process improvements, and the rollout of matter-collaboration technologies, delivering measurable value to attorneys and clients alike. In this role, the LPM captures and analyzes key data, distills actionable insights, and presents concise updates that inform strategic decision-making across client portfolios.

Key Responsibilities. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Portfolio and Project Management
    • Develop deep expertise in the Firm’s project management methods, both general best practices and our BakerManage approach.
    • Help build and roll out collaboration and case-management tools (e.g., MS 365, SharePoint, HighQ).
    • Gather requirements, draft statements of work, set up matter management platforms, train users, and provide ongoing support.
    • Collect project data, analyze results, and create client-facing reports.
    • Monitor client portfolios to enforce billing guidelines, track matter updates, generate reports, and manage budgets or pricing.
  • Process Improvement and Legal Operations
    • Learn and use proven process improvement and legal operations practices.
    • Help carry out process improvement projects for client portfolios.
    • Support clients’ day-to-day legal operations functions.
  • Client Solutions Group Coordination (Data Capture, Training & Practice)
    • Work with LPEs to carry out and capture institutional data hygiene responsibilities, including memorializing final pricing decisions and CSG projects and initiative metrics.
    • With LPE oversight, develop content and presentations focusing on CSG programs and solutions for use in RFP responses and internal and external trainings.
    • Conduct portfolio management trainings with a focus on technologies, reporting, and tools.
  • Perform other duties, tasks, or projects as assigned.

Qualifications (Experience and Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities). 

Experience and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in a relevant field
  • Law degree from accredited law school preferred
  • Valid license to practice law preferred
  • Legal practice experience preferred
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) member or project management professional certification or willingness to obtain
  • Process improvement methodology certification (e.g., Lean or Six Sigma) or willingness to obtain
  • Preferred experience with litigation/transactional support technology
  • Preferred experience with implementation of a project management or knowledge management technology

Salary Range

For positions in Baltimore, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and New Jersey, the salary range for this positing is: $60,000-$70,000.

The range for this position will be based on information collected during the interview process. The amount will depend on several considerations such as your experience, skills, our current business needs, and market conditions. Salary is only one part of the overall compensation package. Legal Support Assistant - Nashville

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell, & Berkowitz, PC has an opening for a Legal Support Assistant in its Nashville office. The ideal candidate will have administrative experience, be extremely professional, possess exceptional communication and organizational skills, excellent computer skills, have a strong proficiency in MS Word, Outlook and Excel, and the ability to work effectively within a group or independently.  Candidate should type a minimum of 65 words per minute with high accuracy. This position will provide support to several attorneys and work together with Legal Support Coordinators in a team environment.  The candidate should be detail-oriented, personable, and able to work well in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include conducting client conflict checks, opening new files; updating and maintaining files in a timely manner including indexing litigation files for hard copy files as well as online; typing memoranda, correspondence and other documents; saving documents into document management system; time entry; processing client bills; transcribing dictation; maintaining calendars with litigation dates and deadlines, as well as other necessary dates; reviewing vendor invoices and requesting checks for payment in a timely manner. This position will support attorneys, paralegals, and legal support coordinators, working within a team environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Schedules and coordinates meetings and conferences which may include distribution of materials.
  2. Coordinates and schedules travel arrangements which include: transportation, automobile rentals, and hotel reservations.
  3. Prepares and maintains client and office files both in electronic and paper filing systems.
  4. Prepares expense reports and check requests.
  5. Proofreads all work for accurate content and context.
  6. Assists with client bills.
  7. Accurately inputs attorney time into the accounting system when necessary.
  8. Provides services such as duplication, printing, scanning, mailing.
  9. Prepares engagement letters, invoices, and other case administration documents as needed, at direction of either attorney or paralegal.
  10. Liaises with third party vendors when necessary to coordinate services.
  11. Performs data entry, which includes inputting clients' personal biographic or corporate information into firm software.
  12. Physical presence in the office is an essential duty of this position.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  1. Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  2. Ability to proofread typed material for grammatical, typographical or spelling errors.
  3. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate by phone and in person and follow instructions effectively with a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
  4. Ability to transcribe legal documents, correspondence and reports from rough draft, dictation, or transcription at least 65 wpm.
  5. Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain when producing a high volume of information.

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell, & Berkowitz, PC has an opening for a highly skilled Legal Support Coordinator in its Atlanta, GA office.  Candidates must have 5+ years of large firm experience; exceptional attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills; and the ability to work effectively within a group or independently.  The ideal candidate is self-motivated, can switch quickly between tasks, is a creative problem-solver, and an excellent multi-tasker.  Candidates must be proficient in MS Word, Outlook and Excel and type a minimum of 65 words per minute with high accuracy.  This position will support more than one attorney. The candidate must be able to work well in a fast-paced environment.  Litigation experience strongly preferred but not required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prioritizing and executing tasks quickly and accurately

Regional Office Administrator - Charlotte, North Carolina

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell, & Berkowitz, PC, a law firm with over 650 attorneys throughout the United States, has an employment opportunity for a Regional Office Administrator based in our Charlotte, North Carolina office.  The position will be responsible for the day to day administrative operations of our Charlotte, Raleigh, Columbia and Charleston offices. Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • General management of each of the above listed offices, including tactical planning and maintaining the highest standards of service and quality.
  • Office financial management, including planning, budgeting, accounts receivable and other financial functions, in coordination with the Firm Finance Department.
  • Management of Human Resources functions, including recruitment, maintenance of staffing plans and acceptable staffing ratios.
  • Facilities Management: including space planning/design, and facilitation of all office functions and services.
  • Coordination with Firm IT department on systems management.

Corporate/Real Estate Paralegal - Raleigh, NC

The Raleigh office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz has an immediate opening for a full-time Corporate/Real Estate Paralegal with at least 5 years of corporate/real estate paralegal experience, including but not limited to:

  • Submitting and reviewing lien searches, UCC and other secretary of state filings;
  • Preparing, filing, and maintaining portfolio of UCC financing statements, amendments, continuations, and terminations;
  • Preparing initial drafts of form legal documents and creating and compiling signature pages and closing documents;
  • Assisting with transaction closings, managing delivery of completed loan files to clients and responding to requests from client recordkeeping teams;
  • Familiarity with UCC Article 9 filing and maintenance laws, secretary of state filing procedures and secured finance transaction documents;
  • Preparing entity formation and registration documents and coordinating submission of such filings with secretary of state offices;
  • Preparing real estate documents, including contracts, deeds, settlement statements, title documents, and closing packages;
  • Assisting with coordinating and managing real estate leasing and conveyancing closings among all parties;
  • Performing title searches and abstracts, title opinions and order and reviewing title insurance commitments;
  • Assisting with the preparation of title objection letters and resolution of title issues;
  • Reviewing surveys and coordinating updates and certifications with surveyors and clients;
  • Preparing and filing documents with county Register of Deeds and other local government agencies; and,
  • Maintaining closing checklists, tracking deadlines, and ensuring all parties remain informed throughout the transaction.

Qualified candidates should possess:

  • Strong familiarity with ALTA survey standards;
  • Strong familiarity with title insurance endorsements and requirements;
  • Strong familiarity with Odyssey searching protocols and practices and VCAP to Odyssey migration;
  • Strong understanding of NC county real estate taxation and proration mechanics in closings;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and seamlessly in team settings and in fast-paced environments; and,
  • Responsive, strong communication skills, able to juggle competing priorities and manage deadlines.

The candidate should be detail oriented, a self-starter with excellent problem solving skills and able to work well in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining calendars with litigation dates and deadlines, as well as other necessary dates;
  • Prioritizing and executing tasks quickly and accurately;
  • Formatting and setting up documents, including pleadings, briefs, correspondence, and other legal documents;
  • Preparing shell documents for attorneys in relation to discovery, orders, motions, trials and other proceedings;
  • Filing litigation documents with state and federal courts – knowledge of electronic filing is required;
  • Handling a high volume of proofreading;
  • Updating and maintaining files, physical and electronic;
  • Time entry, Processing client bills, conducting client conflict checks, transcribing dictation;
  • Reviewing vendor invoices and processing for payment;
  • Assisting attorneys and paralegals in preparation for hearings, mediations, arbitrations and trials.
